Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website dedicated to my music!

If you don’t already know, my name is Daniel Yount. I’m the composer for several online web shows including the Yogscast, Bashcraft and the LittleBIGPodcast.

I was 15 when I started writing music. It was a rough start, but through trial and error I was able to teach myself how to make what I hear inside my head sound good through computer software. I’m now 16.

I’m very lucky and blessed to have such wonderful friends I have made through my musical career so far. My music has been heard by millions (something not many 16 year olds can say) and has impacted people all over the world including being featured in a video the yogscast used at the first Minecon.

Now to answer some questions from my fans over at facebook:

1. Hunter Ginn asks: “How you got started in music, first instruments. How you got your first big break.

Well my first real instrument that I actually started playing was the piano. I never really liked it and eventually dropped taking piano lessons completely, because my teachers would never let me play anything other than what was written on the page. I wanted to make my own music, but they wouldn’t let me.

As for my first big break. I’m not entirely sure I’ve had my first BIG break. Hopefully someone from a huge movie will hear my work and get into contact with me. That would be a BIG break. However, I’ve had my fair share of breaks along the journey to where I am now. For example, when I contacted the Yogcast with some samples of my work I never expected any reply whatsoever. Lewis replied to me very quickly asking if they could use a track for Granny Bacon’s funeral (cue Ode to Granny). From then on out I’ve been their official composer. That was a very large deal and has so much to do with my success so far.

2. Josh Mackus asks: “Why did you choose to pursue the genre of music that you currently make?”

Well for a long time before I started writing music I was a huge fan of trailer music and soundtracks from movies. That must have had something to do with it. I distinctly remember a time when I was very young that I would plug my boombox up and listen to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack over and over again. I’m not sure exactly what attracted my brain to that type of style, but it’s always been my favorite type of music.

3. Gustav Isrenn Berger asks: “What is your thoughts about music? What is music to you?”

This is a little bit of a cliche/overused answer, but nothing else can really explain it. Music is everything. Music is Joy. Music is sadness. Music is success. Music is failure. Music is emotion falling out of the air into your ears.

4. Jack Ryan Jones asks: “What did you play when you were young?”

My first videogame I ever played (or rather my mom allowed me to play- she was worried we’d be addicted) was a scooby doo game on the gameboy advance. However, it also goes to mention what my favorite game of all time is and will ever be. Final Fantasy VI.

One more question:
5. George Joseph Adams asks: “How do yo eat your eggs?”

Scrambled, with pepper, salt and cheese.
